Schull 2010 Read the Report's and comments
Read the fantastic Schull report written by a Galway Bay Sailor Read how the ISA squad got on on Thomas chaix's website If your club has written a report please send onto Editor@iodai.com "Schull in february" the gloom and doom merchents muttered are you mad ? "The weather will be atrocious" they said. "But it was good last year I replied" "Ah Yes but you'll never get that again" they said Well they were wrong once again the organisers of Schull pulled out all the stops and even ordered superb weather to accompany the week. We heard rumours of snow in Dublin but we relished in glorious bring blue skies and sunshine in Schull. Bright blue sky and sunshine with winds of approximately 15 kts gusting to twenty at times. The Dinghy park was a hive of activity as sailors rigged and the wind rose to blow to the cobwebs away as the sailing season started for another year. All levels were catered for from pre-regatta to advanced. Sailors were divided into groups as top irish and international coaches met the sailors in their groups and the sailors met their friends again ! Schull harbour was a sight to behold as Oppies launched in the unseasonal sunshine. This year was the biggest entry ever as over 160 Optimist sailors congregated in the sailing school. The Schull organising committee with Chair Marie Cournane are to be congratulated for their fantastic organisational skills and both parents and sailors agreed that this years Schull was definately the best ever ! I couldn’t agree with your Schull comments more.!! Schull was amazing this year..as it has been every year for that matter!!! Having been involved with Hartey in setting up the very 1st Schull in 2002 (12 sailors) and having been there with family every year since!! it was great to see this amazing week still growing in strength. What a fantastic advert for Irish Optimist sailing. The ISA should look at this format and learn from its success!! Well done to all involved this year... Long may it continue..... had a great time in Schull, looking forward to your Gallery, thanks, yours faithfully, Desmond McGovern Here are a few images from some of the activities of the non-sailing kids with Schull & Fitbones. Over the course of the week 28 kids tried some or all of the days. They climbed Mt.Gabriel, explored mountain tunnels, swung off ropes, went orienteering in Ballydehob, jumped on the trampet, survived the 'jungle marsh', found some 'treasure', had fun and games, and experienced lots of mud (sorry parents for all extra washing!!!). The main thing is they had fun (I hope). From an observer's perspective the whole training camp seemed like a fantastically well organised event. Well done! Kind regards, Deirdre
