VP Cup Team Racing This Weekend!
With the full field of 12 teams confirmed and a promising long term forecast, the VP Trophy 2017 is looking as exciting as ever.
RCYC has dominated in recent years but with only 2 teams entered this year they will have a tough task in retaining the cup.
The sailing instructions are now ready (see attached) and the Format and Schedule finalised. Indeed, the 12 teams have been seeded and dispatched into 2 groups. Each group will sail a full round Robin (5 races guarantied for all teams) to complete phase 1 before moving into semi finals and races for positions and it is only at the end of a series of 46 races that the best club will bring the cup home. The top seed and clear favourite to win the event is the Worlds team. The VP is part of their preparation to the team racing Worlds and they just recently took a solid bronze medal at the Dutch team racing open.
The next 3 seeds have their eyes well set on the VP Trophy and no clear favourite is coming out. The local favourites HYC 1 will have to fend off a solid RstGYC 1 team and RCYC 1 will be there to make the most of any errors.
The RstGYC 2 and the NYC are some kind of dark horses in the mix and have sailors well able to create surprises… Surely the NYC team Led by Nathan Van Steenberge will use its secret weapon: a language only they can understand…
The remaining 6 teams will compete more for the enjoyment and the fun of team racing. Many sailors are juniors and will hope to balance their lack of experience with great teamwork, enthusiasm and remind us all that afterall, they are only kids messing in little boats… Best of luck to RstGYC 3, TBSC, HYC 2, RCYC 2, MYC 1 and MYC 2.
Team leaders and coaches are invited to print SIs and schedule (to follow tomorrow) to prepare their teams accurately. Make sure you study the NOR and SIs appropriately as team racing has specific rules you may not be used to. Do not hesitate to contact Thomas if you have any query.
