UPDATE on the VP trophy (Optimist team racing event).
The NOR for the Vice Presidents Trophy is now available here 2017-vp-trophy-nor. Please note that the deadline for applications is May 22nd, only 4 days away!
The application process is well underway and we have already received applications from RstGYC, RCYC, CHSC, TBSC and HYC. The event can accommodate 12 teams maximum so if a selection has to be done to send back the appropriate number of invitations, the following guidelines will apply to reach 12 teams.
1. Team members from same Club
2. Diversity of clubs
3. Mixed gender ahead of same gender.
It is important we get the full 12 teams to ensure a great event, so if a team of multiple clubs is keen to participate, sailors can apply and request a discretionary invitation. They however may not be eligible to win the perpetual VP trophy.
Another point to consider is that to be eligible for the “Ledro place” (Team racing Europeans in Italy end of August), a team must be composed by 2 sailors from each gender. However Ledro operates with 16 teams only on the basis of 2016 results at Europeans and currently Ireland has not been offered a place. Sailors going to the 2017 worlds are not eligible to Ledro as per IODA rules, so keep this in mind when organising your teams.
Team racing develops rules awareness, close and tight racing with many boat handling situations, communication and cooperation and provide a lot of fun. DinghyPerformance will give you a tip a day from June 12th onward so you can perform the best tactical move on the day.
