Wonderful Finish for Dara Donnelly
Well done to Dara Donnelly who won the Senior Fleet and finished top in the 2014 IODAI rankings. This was Dara’s last regional event as she leaves Oppies now but finished with a bang winning the last 3 races. She has written a note below about the Munsters
Optimist Munster Championships 2014: The Munster Championships were held this year in Tralee Bay Sailing Club. I was really looking forward to the weekend and a little bit sad as it was going to be my last oppie event. The Club were really welcoming and everything was organized very well.
Saturday morning was a little chilly and cloudy but soon the sun came out. After a delay on the water and a change of course location, two races were sailed in light breeze and a lot of tide. The third race was postponed for the day due to the dying breeze and a tide that meant many sailors struggled to cross the start line.
Sunday provided more sunshine and this time perfect winds of about 10 -12 knots. Four races were sailed on Sunday making up for the lost race on Day 1. I enjoyed the weekend very much. And taking home the Munster Trophy was a great end to my time in oppies. I have made great friends that I will have for the rest of my life. I will continue sailing and no doubt I will meet many of them in other classes and I am looking forward to that. Dara Donnelly
