Hi All,
As we settle into the winter months, it is a great opportunity to look back on what has been a fantastic season.
A huge thank you to all the Clubs that hosted events this year. From the Sprints and Youth Nationals to the Regional Championships and IODAI Nationals, every venue provided a wonderful welcome and delivered truly memorable events for our sailors and families.
Over the winter, we will hold our National Training Week in Lough Ree Yacht Club. Looking ahead to the New Year, we will also be running our ever-popular Sprint Series. Details of the Sprint Series and the 2027 calendar will be shared during National Training Week and subsequently published on our website.
Many of you, particularly our Under 12 sailors, have been eagerly awaiting the final rankings. Well, the wait is over!
The Junior and Senior Fleet rankings are listed below. Rankings are based on each sailor’s best two Regional event scores, together with their Nationals score. Sailors who have competed in fewer than the required number of qualifying events are not ranked.
To save everyone counting through the Junior Fleet rankings, we have also included the names of the 12 sailors who have qualified for the Under 12 Team.
These sailors are the highest-ranked competitors who:
- Remain in the Junior Fleet next year;
- Have not previously been members of the Under 12 Team; and
- Have competed in the required number of qualifying events.
Congratulations to all those who have qualified. Your hard work, dedication and commitment throughout the season have been rewarded with a place on one of the most sought-after teams in Irish Optimist sailing!!
You will have the opportunity to train together as a team before representing Ireland at the UK National Championships next summer.
We would encourage you to attend National Training Week, where you will be grouped with your new teammates and further information will be provided to parents on the structure and plans for this year’s Under 12 Team. For sailors not attending National Training Week, we will contact you and your parents in early November with the same information.
Once again, congratulations to all our sailors on an excellent season, and we look forward to seeing you on the water again soon.
