A Great Day for Cork in Dublin

ChrisBateman

Better weather conditions than Saturday meant that some great racing took place at Howth on the second day of the Leinsters.

After Saturday’s training session, the Regatta Fleet got racing, and packed four races into their day. Conor Gorman (NYC) was the overall winner, winning the first two races, followed by Hugh O’Connor (NYC) who won Race 3. Race 4 was won by Cillian Foster (RCYC), while the home club HYC saw two of their sailors in 3rd and 4th place, Ruth Lacy and Michael Fitzgibbon. RCYC’s Conor Ahearne took 5th place in the Regatta Fleet competition. Jonathan O’Shaughnessy was best-placed 9 year old, in 7th place overall.
Great talent coming out of the Regatta Fleet so the older sailors will need to watch their backs!

In the Main Fleet, Cork dominated.

Harry Durcan held his lead in the Senior fleet, winning the event with a 13-point lead. Second and third places also went to RCYC, with James McCann second and Johnny Durcan third.
Peter Fagan (SSC) was fourth, and Gemma McDowell (MYC) was fifth and first girl.

Amy Carroll (KYC) held her lead in the Senior Silver fleet.

Another win for RCYC in the Junior Fleet, with the overall prize going to Chris Bateman. There was a good national spread of awards in this fleet; second overall was HYC’s Jamie McMahon; third, and first girl, was Ella Hemeryck (NYC/WHSC), fourth was Harry Bell (RNIYC) and fifth was KYC’s Micheal O’Shuilleabhain.

Triona Hinkson (RSGYC) won the Junior Silver title.

With a match to watch, sailors were quick to get packed up and enjoy the great food and ice-cream on offer at the club, and all went home smiling!
