A great weekend of racing was had by all at the Volvo Optimist Ulster Championships last weekend in Malahide Yacht Club. Over 130 sailors travelled from the four corners of Ireland for the first Regional event of 2018.

Four races were raced in the sunshine on day one, and two more were raced on day two in more overcast conditions.

Top prize went to Johnny Flynn of (HYC/RStGYC), who had a fantastic event, finishing 21 points ahead of his closest rival Sam Ledoux (NYC), 3rd place went to Leah Rickard of NYC, 4^th place went to Conor Gorman of NYC, in 5th place was Fiachra McDonnell of NYC, topping off a strong weekend for NYC sailors.

The Junior fleet top prize went to Rocco Wright of HYC/NYC, 2^nd place went to Jessica Riordan of RStGYC, 3^rd place went to Clementine van Steenberge of NYC, in 4^th place was Alana Twomey of RCYC & CHSC and 5^th place went to Russell Bolger of RStGYC.

First place in the Regatta Fleet went to Riona McMorrow-Moriarty of TBSC., 2^nd place to Ava Ennis of NYC, 3^rd place went to Caoilinn McDonnell of NYC, 4^th place to James Hall NYC and 5^th place to Harry Lubliner RStGYC.

A big Thank you to MYC for hosting the Ulsters and for your team of amazing volunteers, coaches and parents who really made the event so special for everyone.

The Ulsters were a great start to the Optimist regional events and we are now looking forward to the Leinsters. This year they are taking place over the weekend of June 16th & 17th in Howth Yacht Club, Co. Dublin

Entries are now open for the Leinsters and we would encourage you enter as soon as possible.

Entry for the Leinsters is €60:02 and the early entry fee closes at 10pm (sharp) on Friday 1^st June. From June 1^st the fee goes up to €120:01
Final closing date is Wed 6^th June, at 10pm sharp
