Great opportunity to attend Greek Regatta
An invitation has been extended to Irish Optimist sailors by John Kavarligos, one of the Greek coaches that have coached in Baltimore in recent years. The invitation is to attend a Regatta in his own home club of NCPF which is located 45 minutes from Athens airport. The event is held over three days. The regatta starts on the 17th November, the 18th is a lay day and racing again on the 19th and 20th. Last year the event had 200 sailors in attendance. This year they are expecting 250 with more international sailors.
The club are offering free accommodation for 4 sailors for four nights with free optimist charter for the week. There will be coaching provided through English by John for the three days prior to the event which will cost €120 per sailor. The accommodation costs for the other nights appears to be in the region of €200 per sailor. The entry fee for the event is €15. The flight costs including bags is currently in the region of €220 per child. Plus some daily pocket money will be required.
Aileen Cunnane is travelling to the event as team parent. The sailors would need to take 6 days off school to attend the event. Flying out from Dublin early on the morning of the 13th November, leaving Athens on Monday the 21st with a stop off in London & returning into Dublin mid afternoon. Children would need to be 11 years or older and comfortable being away from home for this period of time. Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
