IODAI Trials and ISA Youth Nationals 2022
The IODAI trials took place last week, 21-24th April in conjunction with The Irish Sailing Youth Nationals at Ballyholme Yacht Club. 49 sailors competed over a tough and gruelling 4 days, facing big seas, heavy and light winds and glorious sunshine.
Racing was held just adjacent to the entrance to Bangor Marina where they benefited from the experience of Bill O’Hara as race officer and his race team. The full complement of races was completed although not as scheduled as a lost race on day 1 was rescheduled on the Saturday. Credit due to Ballyholme for completing the programme in extremely difficult circumstances with most rescue craft having a busy period.
It was great to see our recently transitioned Optimist sailors thriving throughout the more senior fleets, representing in the 420, ILCA4, ILCA6, Topper and 29er classes. Wishing you continued success in your future sailing.
Racing was extremely competitive across the 11 races. Congratulations to all of the sailors who took part in the event.

Looking ahead to our first regional of the year at the Munster Championships @ RCYC on 21-22nd May.
I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate all of the sailors on how they conducted themselves throughout the event. It was noted by several officials how organised, respectful, polite and mannerly all of our sailors were. You are a credit to yourselves and IODAI.
