So how was the Leinsters for our Sailors?

My name is Michael Fitzgibbon and I am 10. I started sailing when I was eight and I am a member of Howth Yacht Club where I did my basics skills level this Summer. I have my own Optimist, but I also got to sail on a J80 and a cruiser as well with my mum and Dad and my friend Julianne Gallagher. My sail number is 1375.

I sail in the Regatta Fleet with my friends Hugh Turvey, Luke Turvey, Johnny Flynn, Kai Jackson, Aoife McMahon and Ruth Lacy. We all went to the Crosbie Cup in Sutton and the Nationals in the National Yacht Club in Dun Laoghaire where we had more than 40 boats racing in the harbour after we did coaching in the morning. I did well when the wind was light and got 1st in 1 race. We did Skerries Regatta, Sutton and Howth Regatta when it was very windy and I nose dived in one race.

We always have a great time at sailing events and its great to meet other kids from around Ireland. I like sailing especially when its windy, and when we go on long journeys to Ireland’s Eye and Dublin Bay. I like racing because its fun to learn and compete with my friends.
